Metro Detroit Events and Things to Do in July, 2014
July brings the warm, humid days and long, balmy nights to the Metro-Detroit area. The month also brings fireworks, music festivals and art fairs. And don’t forget the ultimate celebration of the season, the Ann Arbor Art Fair. To help you schedule your activities, here is a list of Metro Detroit Events and Things to Do in July.
Michigan Elvis Festival
When: 7/11/14 through 7/12/14
Where: Riverside Park in Historic Depot Town, Ypsilanti
A loving tribute to The King, the Michigan ElvisFest showcases artists in live musical performances and impersonations. It also is a venue for the average Joe, both big and small, to dress up and be The King for a day. The festival also includes food, drink and classic cars.
Art in the Park
When: 7/11/14 through 7/13/14
In its 35th year, Plymouth’s Art in the Park has grown to rival Ann Arbor’s. In fact, it is the second largest art festival in the state. In addition to the art and crafts showcased, Art in the Park features musical artists and kids activities.

Where: Detroit Riverfront
Detroit’s APBA Gold Cup is a hydroplane event. The U.S. Navy will also demonstrate maneuvers. There are several classes of tickets, but general admission starts at $15.
Ann Arbor Art Fair
When: 7/16/14 through 7/19/14
Where: Throughout Downtown Ann Arbor
The fair is actually made up of four different fairs, all of which combine seamlessly. In addition to arts and crafts, there is live music, politics, street performances,and art workshops. A Townie Street Party on July 14th kicks off the event and features live music, food and drinks.
Where: The Palace of Auburn Hills
Vans Warped Tour is sponsored by the BMX/Skateboarding manufacturer Vans, as well as a host of other companies. It features extreme sports merchandise and contests, as well as over 60 bands. This year the bands include Every Time I Die, Alive Like Me, Bowling for Soup, We The Kings, Real Friends, and Mayday Parade..
When: 7/19/14 through 7/20/14
Where: Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area, Waterford
In its 14th year, the Quake on the Lake features hydroplane races, Made-In-Michigan beers and food products, family fun zone, and live music. Other attractions include Air Margaritaville, Classic Car Show, Christmas in July Craft Show and Race for Charity.
When: 7/25/14 through 7/27/14
Where: Palmer Park, Saint Clair
A weekend of music and powerboat races, the St. Clair Riverfest has something for everyone. Live music includes The Rockets, Loverboy, and John Waite.
When: 7/26/14 through 7/27/14
Where: The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn
The Maker Faire is a festival of sorts that showcases local inventors and arts/crafts/science enthusiasts. The idea started in San Mateo, CA, but spread nationally in 2010. The Faire is located in the parking lot of The Henry Ford Museum. It also has several exhibits scattered at various places within the museum itself. Tickets start at $28 (for non-members) an adult and include admission to The Henry Ford.
